Indian Undergraduate Scholarships offered
by Nehru Memorial
Scholarship Scheme – 2017/18
(Undergraduate Courses)
Applications
are invited from eligible Sri Lankan students for the award of undergraduate
scholarships offered by the Government of India under the Nehru Memorial
Scholarship Scheme for the academic year 2017/18.
Number of
scholarships: 100
1. General Eligibility requirements:-
(a)
Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
(b)
Age should be below 22 years on 18.01.2017
(c)
Should have passed the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination
conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka with subjects relevant
to the field applicant intends to apply.
(e)
Should be in good health and ready to live in India during the period
of study.
(f)
Applicant should not be an internal student (a student
selected by UGC based on the G.C.E. A/L results) already registered or
following a course at a university in Sri Lanka.

03. Field of Study:
(i) Engineering
(ii) Bio Science
(iii) Commerce &
Management
(iv) Arts
(v) Fine Arts
4. Qualifications Required:
- Students should have gained passes in subjects prescribed for the intended field of study at the G.C.E (A/L) examination.
- Should have obtained at least a very good pass in English at the G.C.E.(O/L) Examination

Scholarship Benefits:

Approved tuition and Exam fees

A grant for books and apparatus ,where applicable

Round Trip Air Ticket
6. Special Notes:
(a)
Conditions laid down in this notification may vary as
per the criteria imposed by the awarding country without prior notice.
(b)
If any student declines the offer after the selection
through the interview, he/she will not be considered for any of the
scholarships during the year.
(c)
Candidates who are awarded a scholarship for
undergraduate studies would not be considered for admission to any local
university.
(d) Extension of the period of
the scholarship will not be recommended by this Ministry.
(e)
Field of study selected at the beginning will not be
allowed to change later under any circumstances.
7. Applications:
(a)
Every Application should conform to the specimen form provided.
(b)
Each Applicant should submit only one application for
award, and should state whether he /she has been nominated for a similar award
in the past.
(c)
The words "Nehru
Memorial Scholarships- 2017/18” should be hand or type-written on top left
corner of the envelope containing the application. (Please mention your stream below the scholarship scheme -Arts/
Commerce/ Bio Science/ Engineering /Fine Arts)
(d)
Any statement in the application, which is found to be
incorrect before selection, will render the applicant liable to
disqualification. If such inaccuracy is found after selection it will lead to
the withdrawal of the award.
(e)
Any application, which is incomplete in any respect or received late,
will be rejected.
(f)
Applications should be sent to the following address
of this Ministry by registered post or by hand.
8.
Nominations & Final
Selections:
(a)
Nominations will be made through an interview after short listing of
applications.
(b)
As a result of the time period defined by the
Government of India the interviews may be conducted within a short period after
the closing date.
(c)
These nominations will be sent to the relevant
selection authority through the High Commission of India in Colombo.
(d)
The final selections will be made by the Government of
India as the awarding authority accordingly. Therefore no candidate should
treat his/her nomination for a scholarship as an acceptance for an award.
Acceptance is a matter entirely within the discretion of the awarding agency.
Applications
should be reached by 4.00 pm on 18th January 2017.
